Automatic Gates Force Testing and Health & Safety Testing to BS EN 12453 Electric Powered Automatic Gates Should be Tested at Regular Intervals to ensure their safety. Automated gates are classed as machinery and as such must be provided with adequate safety to ensure that users and others who may be affected, like passers-by and visitors to your property, are not endangered. The laws affecting automatic gates are quite stringent and it is important to ensure that your gate is safe. Automatic Gates are judged to come under The Supply of Machinery (Safety) Regulations also referred to as the Machinery Directive this requires that you must make sure that the system is safe, When an Electric Gate is installed it becomes the owner, manager or landlord’s responsibility under various pieces of health and safety legislation to ensure that their system is regularly maintained to keep it safe. Existing systems that do not match current safety standards must be upgraded to protect the interests of the owner, manager or landlord and the safety of users. Eagle Security engineers have been through a rigorous training program that teaches all the legislative and standards-related information to protect both your legal interests and the safety of those who may encounter your gates. Eagle Security have the right test equipment to measure closing/opening forces, the safety edges and beams. These forces should be measured in accordance with BS EN 12445:2001. "Industrial commercial and garage doors and gates. Safety in use of power operated doors. Test methods" and the performance of the system validated before the gate is put into use. Forces should be periodically re-measured and checked as part of the planned preventative maintenance schedule for the gates.
